SFPUC Looks
at Green
Solutions for
Stormwater
Management Scores of hydrologists, landscape architects, urban planners and community activists came together to “think outside the storm drain” in November as they pored over neigh- borhood maps and brainstormed stormwater management solutions at an Urban Watershed Planning workshop.
Participants in the collaborative event studied watershed maps to pinpoint the best areas for bioretention, filtration, permeable paving, rainwater harvesting and other sustain- able stormwater management techniques in a broad effort to recharge the City’s groundwater, reduce runoff, and enhance public space.
The five-hour event focused on the City’s north and west sides. An earlier workshop focused on the City’s east side. Top solutions from both workshops will be presented to San Francisco neighborhoods and residents and may be folded into San Francisco’s sewer system overhaul.
Participants plan green
stormwater projects.
